Policies

The boring but important stuff

We love plants. We love getting them into your hands. We do not love legal mumbo jumbo—but when you’re working with living plants, shipping carriers, weather, tissue culture imports, and real humans, clear expectations matter.

These policies are here so you know exactly what to expect when purchasing from The Wanderleaf Co. We’ve tried to keep them as straightforward as possible while covering the things that protect both you and us when something doesn’t go according to plan.

Because plants are living things, no two are exactly alike, and some factors—like weather, carrier delays, natural growth, and international shipping—are simply outside our control. Please review the policies that apply to your purchase before placing an order.

By placing an order, booking a class or service, or participating in Wanderleaf Direct, you acknowledge and agree to the applicable policies below.

01 — SHIPPING POLICY

Shipping Policy

The Wanderleaf Co. ships live plants and plant material with the goal of getting every order to its destination as safely and quickly as possible. Because we are shipping living things, however, transit times, weather, carrier handling, and delivery conditions can all affect an order once it leaves our care.

Shipping Schedule

Orders are generally shipped Monday through Wednesday to reduce the chance of live plants sitting in a carrier facility over the weekend. Shipping days may be adjusted due to holidays, extreme temperatures, severe weather, carrier disruptions, or other conditions that we believe could put your order at unnecessary risk.

Processing and shipping times may vary by sales platform, product type, or special event. Any estimated shipping or delivery date provided at checkout is an estimate and is not guaranteed unless specifically stated otherwise.

Shipping Methods

Available shipping methods and upgrades are provided at checkout or offered based on the sales platform through which you purchase.

Customers are responsible for selecting a shipping method appropriate for their location, weather conditions, and order. For long-distance shipments or periods of extreme heat or cold, The Wanderleaf Co. may strongly recommend an expedited shipping method.

Choosing a slower shipping method after an expedited option has been recommended may increase the risk associated with shipping a live plant.

Shipping Charges

Shipping charges are calculated or established according to the sales platform, order type, package size, destination, and selected shipping service.

If a customer requests or agrees to a shipping upgrade after placing an order, any additional shipping cost must be paid before the order is shipped.

Shipping Addresses

Customers are responsible for providing a complete and accurate shipping address at the time of purchase.

The Wanderleaf Co. is not responsible for delivery problems, delays, returned packages, or additional shipping expenses resulting from an incorrect or incomplete address provided by the customer.

If you notice an address error before your order ships, contact us immediately. We will make every reasonable effort to correct it, but address changes cannot be guaranteed once an order has entered fulfillment or been transferred to the carrier.

Tracking & Delivery

Tracking information will be provided when available through the platform used to place your order.

Customers are responsible for monitoring tracking and making reasonable arrangements to receive their package promptly upon delivery. Live plants should not be left outdoors, in mailboxes, on porches, or in other areas exposed to extreme temperatures for extended periods.

A package marked delivered by the carrier is considered delivered for purposes of our shipping policy. Missing or misdelivered packages should be reported to the carrier promptly and may require a carrier claim or investigation.

Carrier Delays

Once an order has been transferred to the shipping carrier, transit and handling are outside the direct control of The Wanderleaf Co.

Carrier delays, routing errors, missed scans, weather disruptions, mechanical issues, and other transportation delays can occur. While we will assist customers when reasonably possible, a carrier delay by itself does not automatically qualify an order for a refund or replacement.

If the condition of a plant is affected during transit, please follow the requirements in our Live Arrival & Damage Policy so we can evaluate the order.

Shipping Restrictions

We ship only to destinations we are legally and practically able to service. Certain states, territories, plant species, or types of plant material may be restricted due to agricultural regulations or shipping requirements.

The Wanderleaf Co. reserves the right to cancel and refund an order that cannot legally or reasonably be shipped to the destination provided.

Order Combining

Orders are not automatically combined, including multiple purchases made by the same customer. If combining orders is available for a particular sale or platform, it will be specifically stated.

Please do not assume separate orders will be combined or that duplicate shipping charges will automatically be refunded.

02 — LIVE ARRIVAL & DAMAGE

Live Arrival & Damage

We take great care when selecting, inspecting, and packing plants for shipment. However, plants are living things, and some stress during shipping is normal. A plant may arrive looking a little different than it did when it left us, especially after spending several days inside a box.

What Is Considered Normal Shipping Stress?

Minor cosmetic damage does not necessarily mean a plant is unhealthy or damaged beyond recovery. Normal shipping stress may include drooping, curled leaves, minor leaf damage, an older yellowing leaf, small tears or blemishes, temporary wilting, or some leaf loss.

Plants may need time to adjust to changes in light, temperature, humidity, and their new environment after shipping.

If Your Plant Arrives Damaged

If you believe your plant has arrived with significant damage, please contact us as soon as possible after delivery.

To evaluate an arrival issue, we require a clear, continuous unboxing video showing the unopened package being opened and the condition of the plant as it is removed, along with clear photographs of the plant, packaging, and any areas of concern.

Please keep all packaging until the issue has been resolved.

Do Not Alter the Plant Before Contacting Us

If there is a problem, please do not repot, cut, trim, divide, treat, or otherwise alter the plant before contacting us unless immediate action is necessary to prevent further deterioration.

Changing the plant before we are able to evaluate its arrival condition may affect our ability to determine what happened and may affect eligibility for a refund, replacement, or other resolution.

Reporting Timeframe

Arrival concerns must be reported within the timeframe specified for the sales platform or order type through which the purchase was made.

Because plant condition can change quickly after delivery, issues reported outside the applicable reporting window may not be eligible for resolution.

Refunds & Replacements

Submitting documentation does not automatically guarantee a refund or replacement. Each situation is reviewed individually based on the plant's condition upon arrival, shipping method selected, transit history, weather conditions, documentation provided, and other relevant circumstances.

When we determine that an order qualifies for a resolution, The Wanderleaf Co. may offer a refund, partial refund, replacement, store credit, or another appropriate remedy depending on the circumstances and availability.

Damage Caused After Delivery

The Wanderleaf Co. cannot be responsible for damage occurring after successful delivery, including packages left outdoors or exposed to heat, cold, direct sun, freezing temperatures, theft, animals, improper handling, or delays in opening the package.

Please monitor your tracking and make arrangements to bring live plant shipments indoors as soon as possible after delivery.

Carrier Damage

If a package appears crushed, punctured, soaked, opened, or otherwise significantly damaged by the carrier, please photograph the outside of the package before opening it whenever possible and include that documentation with your unboxing video and photos.

Please do not discard the shipping box or packing materials until the issue has been reviewed.

03 —RETURNS, REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS

RETURNS, REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS

Because we sell live plants and other perishable plant material, all sales are generally considered final. We do not accept traditional returns or exchanges simply because a customer changes their mind, no longer wants the item, or decides the plant is not a good fit after delivery.

Returns & Exchanges

For the health of our plants and the rest of our collection, live plants cannot be returned once they have been delivered or picked up.

Please review photos, descriptions, sizing information, shipping options, and other listing details carefully before purchasing.

Cancellations

Orders begin moving through our fulfillment process quickly, and cancellation requests are not guaranteed.

If you need to request a cancellation, contact us as soon as possible. Whether an order can be canceled will depend on its current fulfillment status, the sales platform through which it was purchased, and the type of order placed.

Orders that have already shipped cannot be canceled.

Change of Mind

A change of mind, accidental purchase, failure to review a listing, or failure to select the desired shipping option does not automatically qualify an order for a refund.

Customers are responsible for reviewing their order information before completing checkout.

Refund Eligibility

Refunds may be issued when The Wanderleaf Co. determines that an order qualifies under our Live Arrival & Damage Policy, an item cannot be fulfilled, or another circumstance occurs for which we determine a refund is appropriate.

Submitting a request does not automatically guarantee a refund.

Approved Refunds

Depending on the circumstances, an approved resolution may include a full refund, partial refund, replacement, store credit, or another appropriate remedy.

Refunds are generally issued to the original payment method whenever possible. Processing times after a refund is issued are controlled by the payment processor or financial institution and may vary.

Shipping Charges

Original shipping charges and optional shipping upgrades are generally non-refundable once an order has shipped or the shipping service has been purchased and used.

If only part of an order qualifies for a refund, the original shipping charge is not automatically included in that refund.

Platform Purchases

Orders placed through third-party marketplaces or selling platforms may also be subject to that platform's terms, procedures, and refund requirements.

When platform rules differ from our own policies, we will comply with any requirements that legally or contractually apply to the transaction.

Fraudulent Claims & Chargebacks

We maintain order records, tracking information, customer communications, photographs, videos, and other documentation when applicable.

Knowingly submitting false information, fraudulent claims, or improper payment disputes may result in refusal of future service or purchases from The Wanderleaf Co. and may be contested using the documentation available to us.

04 — LOCAL PICKUP POLICY

LOCAL PICKUP POLICY

Local pickup is available for eligible orders in Knoxville, Tennessee. By selecting local pickup at checkout, you are choosing to collect your order directly from The Wanderleaf Co. rather than having it shipped.

Pickup Location

Local pickup means pickup from The Wanderleaf Co. at our designated pickup location. We do not meet customers at alternate locations or deliver local pickup orders unless arrangements have been specifically agreed to in advance.

Pickup instructions and location information will be provided directly to the customer when the order is ready.

Pickup Window

Local pickup orders must be collected within three days of the applicable pickup notification or designated pickup date, unless other arrangements have been approved in advance.

If you cannot pick up within that timeframe, please contact us as soon as possible.

Plant Condition While Awaiting Pickup

Plants are living things and continue to grow and change while waiting to be collected. Once an order has been prepared and made available for pickup, The Wanderleaf Co. cannot guarantee that the plant will remain in exactly the same condition throughout the pickup window.

Customers are encouraged to collect their plants as promptly as possible.

Abandoned Orders

Orders that are not collected within the three-day pickup window and for which the customer has not contacted us to make other arrangements may be considered abandoned.

Abandoned orders may be canceled and refunded minus a 30% restocking fee to account for the time, handling, inventory disruption, and care associated with preparing and holding the order.

Missed Pickup Arrangements

If a specific pickup time has been arranged and you are unable to make it, please contact us before the scheduled time whenever possible.

Repeated missed pickup arrangements or failure to communicate may result in local pickup no longer being available for future orders.

Responsibility After Pickup

Customers are responsible for inspecting their order at pickup. Once an order has been collected and leaves our possession, care, transportation, temperature exposure, and handling become the customer's responsibility.

If you notice an issue at pickup, please bring it to our attention before leaving with the order so we have an opportunity to address it.

05 — WEATHER & SHIPPING PROTECTION

WEATHER & SHIPPING PROTECTION

Live plants are sensitive to temperature, and shipping during periods of extreme heat or cold carries additional risk. We monitor weather conditions and take reasonable precautions when preparing orders, but we cannot control temperatures or conditions a package encounters once it enters the carrier network.

Extreme Temperatures

During periods of extreme heat, cold, storms, or other potentially dangerous weather conditions, The Wanderleaf Co. may recommend expedited shipping, additional weather protection, or delaying shipment.

We reserve the right to temporarily hold an order when we believe shipping conditions create an unreasonable risk to the plant. When possible, customers will be notified of significant weather-related shipping changes.

Shipping Upgrades

Expedited shipping may be strongly recommended based on the customer's location, expected transit time, current temperatures, or the type and value of plants being shipped.

Customers who choose a slower shipping method after an expedited option has been recommended acknowledge the additional risk associated with the longer transit time.

Heat & Cold Protection

Heat packs, cold packs, insulation, reflective packaging, or other weather-protection options may be available or recommended depending on the season and order.

These products are intended to reduce temperature fluctuations during transit, but they cannot guarantee that a package will remain within a specific temperature range for the entire journey.

Weather protection is not a substitute for selecting an appropriate shipping speed.

Customer Responsibility

Customers are responsible for reviewing weather conditions in their area and selecting appropriate shipping options when placing an order.

If we contact you to recommend a shipping upgrade or additional protection, please respond promptly so your order is not unnecessarily delayed.

After Delivery

Customers are responsible for monitoring tracking and retrieving live plant shipments promptly after delivery.

Packages left outside after delivery—including on porches, in mailboxes, parcel lockers, vehicles, or other exposed areas—can experience damaging temperatures very quickly. Damage caused by prolonged exposure after confirmed delivery is not considered shipping damage.

Weather-Related Damage

Weather-related claims will be evaluated under our Live Arrival & Damage Policy and may take into consideration the shipping method selected, weather protection purchased or declined, transit time, carrier delays, local temperatures, and how quickly the package was retrieved after delivery.

Purchasing expedited shipping or weather protection does not guarantee plant survival or automatically qualify an order for a refund.

06 — WANDERLEAF DIRECT POLICY

WANDERLEAF DIRECT POLICY

Wanderleaf Direct operates differently from our standard retail business and is governed by its own policies and terms, which are provided directly on the Wanderleaf Direct storefront.

These policies cover Direct-specific matters including ordering windows, payment, laboratory availability, estimated arrival dates, international shipping and import delays, out-of-stock items, tissue culture condition, refunds, domestic shipping, local pickup, and other requirements specific to the program.

Because Direct policies may be updated as the program, laboratory requirements, shipping processes, or ordering procedures change, the policies displayed on the Wanderleaf Direct storefront at the time of purchase are the policies applicable to that order.

By placing an order through Wanderleaf Direct, customers acknowledge that they have reviewed and agreed to the policies and terms provided on the Direct storefront before completing their purchase.

07 — CLASSES & BOOKINGS

CLASSES & BOOKINGS

Wanderleaf Academy offers in-person classes, private virtual classes, and other educational sessions. Because many classes require advance preparation, reserved time, supplies, plant material, or coordination with a host location, the following policies apply to all Academy bookings unless otherwise stated for a specific event.

Registration & Payment

Registration is not confirmed until payment has been received. Class availability is limited, and submitting an inquiry or expressing interest does not reserve a spot.

All class details, including date, time, location, format, and what is included, should be reviewed before booking.

Cancellations & Rescheduling

We understand that life happens. If you are unable to attend your scheduled class, please contact us as soon as possible.

When reasonable notice is provided, we may allow your registration to be transferred to another available class or your private session to be rescheduled. Availability is not guaranteed and may depend on the type of class, supplies already prepared, host location, and upcoming schedule.

No-Shows

Failure to attend a scheduled class or private session without contacting us may result in forfeiture of the registration fee.

Because your space, time, and materials have been reserved specifically for you, refunds are not guaranteed for missed classes or appointments.

Wanderleaf Cancellations

If Wanderleaf Academy must cancel or reschedule a class, registered participants will be contacted as soon as reasonably possible and offered an appropriate resolution, which may include transferring the registration to another date or receiving a refund.

In-Person Classes

Locations, arrival instructions, and other event-specific information will be provided for each in-person class.

Some classes are hosted in partnership with independent plant shops, businesses, or venues. Participants are expected to follow any reasonable rules or requirements established by the host location while attending.

Private Virtual Sessions

Customers are responsible for having a reliable internet connection and a device capable of participating in the virtual session.

For hands-on classes, any materials provided by Wanderleaf Academy should be kept together and unopened when instructed until the scheduled class so we can work through the process together.

Educational Information

Classes and private sessions are intended for educational purposes. Plant care and growing results can vary significantly depending on the individual plant, environment, equipment, care practices, and other factors outside our control.

Information provided through Wanderleaf Academy is intended to help customers make informed growing decisions, but specific plant outcomes or survival cannot be guaranteed.

08 — LIVING PLANT DISCLAIMER

LIVING PLANT DISCLAIMER

Plants are living organisms, and variation is part of what makes them plants. While The Wanderleaf Co. takes care to accurately represent and describe the plants we sell, no two plants are exactly alike and their appearance will naturally change over time.

Natural Variation

Unless a listing specifically states that the exact plant pictured will be received, photographs may be representative of the variety offered.

Size, shape, leaf count, coloration, variegation, growth pattern, root development, and other characteristics may vary from plant to plant.

Variegation

Variegation is naturally variable and cannot be guaranteed to remain the same over time. A variegated plant may produce leaves with more or less variegation, change coloration as it grows, or revert partially or completely.

The appearance of a plant at the time of purchase does not guarantee the appearance of future growth.

Growth & Changes

Plants continue to grow and change between the time they are photographed, listed, purchased, shipped, and received. New leaves may emerge, older leaves may yellow or drop, existing leaves may change position, and cosmetic imperfections may develop naturally.

These normal changes do not necessarily indicate that a plant is unhealthy.

Cosmetic Imperfections

Unless specifically sold or represented otherwise, plants may have minor cosmetic imperfections such as small tears, blemishes, leaf-tip damage, healed marks, or imperfections from normal growth and handling.

We sell healthy plants, not perfect plants.

Pest Prevention

We take reasonable steps to maintain healthy plants and manage pests within our growing environment. However, no greenhouse, nursery, or living plant collection can guarantee that a plant will remain completely free of every pest, egg, spore, or other organism.

We strongly recommend that customers inspect and quarantine all new plants before introducing them to an established collection.

Care After Purchase

Once a plant has been delivered or picked up, its continued health depends on its new environment and care.

Light, water, humidity, temperature, substrate, fertilizer, repotting, pest management, and other growing conditions are outside the control of The Wanderleaf Co. Because of this, we cannot guarantee continued growth, appearance, variegation, or survival after the applicable arrival period has passed.

Plant Identification

Plants are identified and labeled to the best of our knowledge using information available from our growers, suppliers, laboratories, and other sources. Plant names and classifications may occasionally change as horticultural or botanical information is updated.

09 — WEBSITE & EDUCATIONAL CONTENT

WEBSITE & EDUCATIONAL CONTENT

The Wanderleaf Co. and Wanderleaf Academy create original educational materials, written content, photography, graphics, guides, downloads, and other resources intended to help our customers and community learn and grow. Unless otherwise stated, this content is owned by The Wanderleaf Co. and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Personal Use

Educational materials purchased, downloaded, received, or accessed through The Wanderleaf Co. or Wanderleaf Academy are provided for personal use only, unless written permission for another use has been provided.

Purchasing or receiving access to a resource does not transfer ownership of the content or grant permission to reproduce, distribute, publish, or commercially use it.

Copying & Redistribution

Our guides, Plant Bibles, class materials, care instructions, photographs, graphics, downloads, and other original content may not be copied, reproduced, uploaded, shared, distributed, or republished in whole or in substantial part without prior written permission from The Wanderleaf Co.

This includes distributing purchased materials to others, uploading files to groups or online communities, or making copies available for public download.

Resale & Commercial Use

Wanderleaf educational materials may not be resold, repackaged, rebranded, incorporated into another paid product or service, or used as instructional materials for a commercial class or business without prior written authorization.

Removing The Wanderleaf Co. or Wanderleaf Academy branding does not create permission to use or redistribute the underlying content.

Digital Products

Because digital products can be accessed immediately and cannot meaningfully be returned once delivered or downloaded, sales of digital educational products are generally final, except where otherwise required by applicable law or when we determine that a refund is appropriate.

Customers are responsible for providing a valid email address and maintaining access to the device, account, or software necessary to view their purchased materials.

Classes & Educational Materials

Materials provided as part of a Wanderleaf Academy class or private session are intended for the registered participant. Participation in a class does not grant permission to record, reproduce, teach, sell, or distribute Wanderleaf Academy curriculum or class materials.

Educational Disclaimer

Plant care is not one-size-fits-all. Information provided through our website, guides, classes, Learning Library, social media, or other educational resources is based on our experience, research, and growing practices and is provided for general educational purposes.

Growing conditions vary, and The Wanderleaf Co. cannot guarantee a particular result from following educational information or recommendations.
