Your plant has been through packing, shipping, temperature changes, and a whole lot of movement before reaching you.
The best thing you can do now is keep things simple.
This guide walks you through what to do when your plant arrives, what’s normal after shipping, when to water, where to place it, and when to leave it alone and let it settle in.
Your First Few Days

Unpack & Inspect
Carefully remove all packing materials and give your plant a good once-over. Check the leaves, stems, and soil.
Some drooping, bent foliage, or cosmetic damage is normal after shipping.
Unpack it. Inspect it. Let it breathe.

Check the Soil Before Watering
Don't automatically water your plant just because it arrived.
Check the soil first. If it's still damp, leave it alone. If it's dry, water thoroughly and allow the excess to drain.
Water because it needs it—not because it just arrived.

Give It Good Light
Place your plant in bright, indirect light while it adjusts.
Avoid harsh direct sun or putting it immediately under an intense grow light. It just spent time in a dark box and needs a minute to adjust.
Bright. Steady. Not extreme.

Let It Settle
Resist the urge to immediately repot, fertilize, or start changing everything.
Shipping is stressful, and even a healthy plant may droop or pause growth while it adjusts. Unless you see rot, pests, or another serious issue, give it a few days.
Sometimes the best plant care is leaving it alone.

Watch for Shipping Stress
Some drooping, an older yellowing leaf, or a temporary pause in growth can be completely normal.
Watch more closely for mushy stems, foul smells, rapid blackening, severe collapse, or obvious pests.
A tired plant needs time. A declining plant needs attention.
What Happens Next?
Once your plant has had a few days to settle in, you can begin transitioning into its normal care routine.
Every plant is a little different, but your next job is simple: watch the plant. Pay attention to how quickly the soil dries, how it responds to its light, and what new growth looks like.
Don't rush to repot just because it's new. Give it time to acclimate unless there's a reason the current pot or substrate needs immediate attention.
Your plant doesn't need perfection. It needs consistency.
